The Book of John Series
Sundays will be set apart for an amazing study on the Book of John by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. He is considered to be one of the greatest expository preachers of the 20th century. Here is a link to the next sermon on The Book of John. You can listen to the audio there or download the file and listen. I would recommend reading the Scripture you see below and meditate or think on it. Listen to the sermon...just listen. Then, if time permits, listen to it again and take notes. It will enrich your life as you grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit to the glory of God our Father! But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (ESV) - John 1:12-13 Do you have a new and special relationship with God, the Holy Spirit, and Christ? Listen to this sermon on John 1:12-13 as Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones looks specifically at this new relationship a believer has with the Spirit: the awareness of the Spirit within, an unction to understand the essential truths of Scripture, and a leading by the Spirit. The general, and the particular, effects of the Spirit's teaching in all areas of life are seen to always lead one to prayer and to the Bible in spiritual interest, not mere intellectuality. Ultimately, these are the matters of life: living, conduct, practice and behavior. What do you like in the mundane affairs of life? Listen in on the question of the Quakers and how they approached morals and sex. Look at the essentiality of Scripture and the error of Quakerism. Ungodliness will lead to unrighteousness; Scripture is God's Word and cannot be separated from the Spirit. The balance between enlightenment and doctrine is crucial. Hear about love misunderstood and the difference between eros and agape love. Dr. Lloyd-Jones discusses the fatal mistake in considering the Law and love to be in opposition to one another. Christianity is not lawlessness, pursue this love that fulfills the Law.
Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) was a Welsh evangelical minister who preached and taught in the Reformed tradition. His principal ministry was at Westminster Chapel, in central London, from 1939-1968, where he delivered multi-year expositions on books of the bible such as Romans, Ephesians and the Gospel of John. In addition to the MLJ Trust’s collection of 1,600 of these sermons in audio format, most of these great sermon series are available in book form (including a 14 volume collection of the Romans sermons), as are other series such as "Spiritual Depression", "Studies in the Sermon on the Mount" and "Great Biblical Doctrines". He is considered by many evangelical leaders today to be an authority on biblical truth and the sufficiency of Scripture.
